Basketball Recap: Denver West Skates Past DSST: Green Valley Ranch with Ease

Denver West came tearing into Friday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. They claimed a resounding 58-20 win over the DSST: Green Valley Ranch Raptors. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 36-10.

Denver West got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Marilyn Vega out in front who went 6 for 10 en route to 12 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Vega has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Alesha Munoz, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 11 points in addition to eight assists and three steals.

Denver West smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in 14 consecutive contests.

DSST: Green Valley Ranch's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Neveah Owens, who posted eight points and five boards, and Zahra Anbari, who scored six points. Feker Wolde also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Denver West's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-7. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 24.3 points over those games. As for DSST: Green Valley Ranch, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-14.
