The Washington Township Senators will challenge the Culver Academies Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Washington Township comes in on three and Culver Academies on five.
Washington Township proved they can win big on Monday (they won by six) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Knox, sneaking past 7-5.
Gavin Kukler was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Liam Schott, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Culver Academies made easy work of South Central on Tuesday and carried off a 13-1 win. Considering the Eagles have won four games by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Culver Academies also got a great performance from Jak Chaney as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Chaney has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Nick Fumich, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI and one run. Max Grundberg was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Culver Academies kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in five consecutive contests.
Culver Academies pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Washington Township, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Washington Township has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Culver Academies struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Washington Township came up short against Culver Academies when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 5-0. Will the Senators have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
