Baseball Recap: Grace's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Tuesday

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Grace can now relate to. They fell just short of the Notre Dame Titans by a score of 5-4 on Tuesday. The Lancers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Titans apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2017.

Rudy Gargiulo was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Gavin Willis was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Borgstrom, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

With the loss, Grace broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 14-12-2. As for Notre Dame, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-9 record this season.

Grace does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Notre Dame, they will face off against Mary Star of the Sea at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. The Stars will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Titans surely won't give up without a fight.
