Softball Game Preview: Smyrna Bulldogs vs. Stewarts Creek Red Hawks

The Smyrna Bulldogs will take on the Stewarts Creek Red Hawks at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Smyrna is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

On Tuesday, Smyrna was able to grind out a solid win over Wilson Central, taking the game 6-1.

Adaeze Nwogbo made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Talia Paredes was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Kylah Lowe, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Stewarts Creek came up short against Lebanon on Tuesday and fell 5-1.

Stewarts Creek saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alexis Pope, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Smyrna's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-0. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Stewarts Creek, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.

Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Smyrna hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .347. However, it's not like Stewarts Creek struggles in that department as they've averaged .333. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Smyrna couldn't quite get it done against Stewarts Creek in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 3-0. Can Smyrna avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
