Baseball Recap: Berea Has No Trouble Against Burgin

While Berea didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Burgin Bulldogs on Wednesday. Considering the Pirates have won four matchups by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Nate Parke spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Nathan Prophitt, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Tommie Banderman, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Berea always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

Berea's record now sits at 7-5. As for Burgin, their defeat was their 20th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Berea will welcome Bluegrass United at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Burgin, they will host Cornerstone Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Cornerstone Christian Academy has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.25 runs per game on average), something Burgin will no doubt try to take advantage of.
