Basketball Recap: Whitney's Higher State Rank on Full Display on Wednesday

Whitney won the last time they faced Del Oro and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Whitney Wildcats snuck past the Del Oro Golden Eagles with a 65-59 victory. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 197th, while the Golden Eagles are ranked 423rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Del Oro lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Luke Galer, who posted 15 points and seven boards. Another player making a difference was Hayden Yarnes, who went 5 for 9 en route to 13 points and three steals.

Whitney has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.0 points per game. As for Del Oro, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-15.

When Whitney and Del Oro next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Whitney will try to stop Jesuit's three-game winning streak when the meet at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Del Oro will face off against Rocklin and their five-game winning streak at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
