Baseball Game Preview: Unionville Longhorns vs. Downingtown East Cougars

Unionville hasn't had much luck against Downingtown East recently, but that could start to change on Monday. Unionville will square off against Downingtown East at 4:00 p.m. Unionville is coming into the game hot, having won their last seven games dating back to last season.

Unionville barely beat Sun Valley the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Unionville put the hurt on Sun Valley with a sharp 8-0 win on Friday. Fans of the Longhorns have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Not much got past Nick Rassias, who gave up just three hits and racked up nine Ks to keep Sun Valley off the board.

At the plate, Jake Daly and Chase Parise did most of the damage at the plate: Daly scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Parise scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3. Those two runs gave Daly a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gavin Griffith, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Downingtown East). They walked away with a 16-12 victory over Avon Grove on Wednesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Cougars considering their two-run performance the contest before.

The win got Downingtown East back to even at 2-2. As for Unionville, their victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-0.

Unionville couldn't quite get it done against Downingtown East in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 as they fell 6-3. Can Unionville avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
