Softball Recap: Kouts Comes Up Short

Kouts dropped to 8-11 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They lost 11-0 to the South Central Satellites. Having soared to a lofty 18 runs in the game before, the Mustangs & Fillies' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for South Central, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 15-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games.

For South Central's part, Maddy Cleek was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Cleek was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to hits, as she's now got three or more in each of the last three games she's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Marlee Cavinder, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Aby Kalinke was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Kouts didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 16-5 loss against Rensselaer Central on the 18th. As for South Central, they have also already played their next matchup, a 4-3 defeat against Boone Grove on the 16th.
