Football Recap: Tripp Furgeison's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Evans over Statesboro

Evans extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping them down to 1-7. They came up short against the Statesboro Blue Devils, falling 43-20. The Knights were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 29-7.

Evans' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tripp Furgeison, who threw for 195 yards and two TDs.

As for Statesboro, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 32.5 points over those games.

A big part of Statesboro's victory came down to the chemistry between Beckham Jarrard and his top target Keon Childers. Jarrard threw for 227 yards and three touchdowns while Childers gained 189 total yards and three touchdowns. The dominant performance also gave Jarrard a new career-high in passer rating (141.5).
