After a string of four wins, Everglades's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell just short of the Stranahan Mighty Dragons by a score of 64-61. While losing is never fun, the Gators can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 192nd, while the Mighty Dragons are ranked 38th).
Everglades' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dekotah Pierre-Johnson, who went 7 of 10 en route to 18 points and five boards. Another player making a difference was Lance Bailey, Jr, who went 6 for 11 on his way to 15 points and seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Everglades was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Stranahan only racked up ten assists.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Stranahan to victory, but perhaps none more so than Damari Foster, who posted 20 points. Foster continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Esron Simeon, who earned ten points in addition to six assists and four steals.
Everglades' defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-6. As for Stranahan, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season.
Everglades didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 59-41 win against Hallandale on the 13th. Stranahan has also already played their next contest, a 79-65 loss against Westminster Academy on the 13th.
