Volleyball Recap: Anna Dierks' Big Game Can't Quite Lead West Springfield over Langley + How To Watch

After flying high against Fairfax last Thursday, West Springfield came back down to earth. The Spartans fell 3-1 to the Langley Saxons on Wednesday. The loss was the Spartans' first of the season.

West Springfield was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Langley work for it, especially in the fourth set. The match finished with set scores of 25-19, 25-22, 21-25, 26-16.

West Springfield lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Anna Dierks, who had 18 assists and five digs. Sariyah Sadler was another key player, getting 11 digs and ten assists.

Having lost for the first time this season, West Springfield fell to 9-1. As for Langley, their victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-3.

West Springfield and Langley should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings. The Spartans will take on West Potomac at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (26 vs. 197). Meanwhile, Langley (ranked 28th) will meet McLean (ranked 226th) at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
