Preview: Weldon Valley Warriors vs. Deer Trail Eagles
Two dominant players in Annie Onufrak and Ally Hardwick are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Weldon Valley Warriors will head out on the road to take on the Deer Trail Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Weldon Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Tuesday.
Weldon Valley suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Tuesday. They were dealt a 55-14 loss at the hands of Otis. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Weldon Valley in their matchups with Otis: they've now lost three in a row.
Ellie Koch put forth a good effort for the losing side as she scored two points along with six rebounds and two steals. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played.
Deer Trail was handed a 23-point defeat in their previous outing, but they didn't let that bad energy affect their game against Bethune on Tuesday. Deer Trail narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Bethune 28-26. The victory was just what Deer Trail needed coming off of a 48-25 loss in their prior match.
Weldon Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Deer Trail, their win bumped their record up to 4-8.
Weldon Valley suffered a grim 47-22 defeat to Deer Trail in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. Can Weldon Valley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
