Softball Game Preview: Milpitas Trojans vs. Homestead Mustangs

The Milpitas Trojans will face off against the Homestead Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Milpitas came up short against Mountain View on Tuesday, falling 10-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Trojans have suffered against the Spartans since May 4, 2021.

Milpitas saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was April Price, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

Meanwhile, Homestead waltzed into their game on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They walked away with a 5-2 victory over the Titans.

Cierra Hagan and Izzy Gutierrez did most of the damage at the plate: Hagan went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI, while Gutierrez went 1-for-3 with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave Gutierrez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Leela Menon, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Homestead hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in five consecutive contests.

Milpitas has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-15 record this season. As for Homestead, their win bumped their record up to 12-4.
