Basketball Game Preview: Vernon Lions vs. Early Longhorns

The Vernon Lions will head out on the road to face off against the Early Longhorns at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Vernon has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Vernon will bounce into Monday's game after beating Iowa Park, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Vernon walked away with a 51-42 win over Iowa Park on Tuesday. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 316th, while the Hawks are ranked 762nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Vernon got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Key'Maria Mcbride out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine boards. Mcbride is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 15 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Mijah Johnson, who posted 14 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

Meanwhile, Early strolled past Dublin with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 37-19.

Early pushed their record up to 18-13 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.7 points per game. As for Vernon, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 14 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 21-9 record this season.
