Softball Recap: Evergreen Valley Takes a Loss

If Evergreen Valley was riding high fresh off their 17-1 takedown of Overfelt last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Evergreen Valley lost 10-4 to the Independence 76ers on Wednesday. The Cougars were not able to make up for their loss to the 76ers from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Mackenzie Brongiel spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and seven unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 14 Ks. Those 14 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Daven Woodham was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.

Evergreen Valley's defeat was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Independence, their victory ended a three-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Evergreen Valley will host James Lick at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Evergreen Valley is facing James Lick at the right time seeing as James Lick is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Independence, they will welcome Gunderson at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Independence will need to watch out since Gunderson has now posted at least ten runs in their last four matchups.
