Softball Recap: Rice Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

Rice proved they can win big two weeks ago (they won by nine) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They never let the Maypearl Panthers get on the board and left with a 2-0 victory. The two-run effort marked the Bulldogs' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

The result came thanks to Cadence Van Cleave's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Halie Adams, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Chloe Perry also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

The win (which was Rice's fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-1-1. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to strikeouts: they averaged an imposing 11 strikeouts in those games compared to only 3.67 in the others. As for Maypearl, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-7-2.

Rice will have a chance to go back-to-back against Maypearl: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
