Basketball Recap: Gavin Hawkins' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Western Boone over Morristown

Western Boone's tournament run continued when they took on Morristown on Saturday. The Western Boone Stars took a 57-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Morristown Yellow Jackets.

Western Boone lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Gavin Hawkins, who posted 13 points. Another player making a difference was Burke Cavins, who put up nine points.

Leading Morristown to victory were Kellen Crim and Colin Kieninger. Crim earned 20 points, while Kieninger almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Keithley, who had seven points and seven rebounds.

Western Boone dropped their record down to 2-7 with the defeat, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Morristown, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-4.

Western Boone will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on North Montgomery at 6:00 p.m. on January 10, 2025. As for Morristown, they are taking a road trip to challenge Tri at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Morristown's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three games.
