Basketball Recap: Garrett Wessels' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Monterey over Watertown

Monterey was the 46-31 winner over Watertown when they last played one another two weeks ago, but their luck changed this time around. The Monterey Wildcats lost 71-51 to the Watertown Purple Tigers on Tuesday. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Monterey's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Garrett Wessels, who went 5-for-9 on his way to 15 points. What's more, Wessels also posted a 56% field goal percentage, which is the highest he's achieved since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Brayden Reams, who posted 12 points.

Monterey's defeat dropped their record down to 8-21. As for Watertown, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-13.

Monterey does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Watertown, they will square off against Jackson County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Jackson County will roll in looking for their 14th straight victory, something Watertown surely won't give up without a fight.
