Basketball Recap: Center Grove Falls Short Against Ranked Brownsburg

On Thursday, Center Grove faced Brownsburg in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The match between the Center Grove Trojans and the Brownsburg Bulldogs didn't end well, with the Center Grove Trojans falling 66-48. The Trojans' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Gracyn Gilliard and Ava Grant certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Gilliard went 6 for 11 on her way to 19 points and five steals, while Grant went 6 of 15 on her way to 17 points.

Even though they lost, Center Grove was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Avery Gordon was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 33 points and 11 boards for Brownsburg. That makes it four consecutive games in which Gordon has scored at least a third of Brownsburg's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bri Brown, who posted five points in addition to five assists and three steals.

Center Grove's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-2. As for Brownsburg, they pushed their record up to 12-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.

Center Grove will square off against Carmel at 7:30 p.m. on January 9th. As for Brownsburg, they will challenge Avon at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Avon is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.1 points per game this season.
