The Charlestown Pirates will face off against the Scottsburg Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Charlestown 3.9, Scottsburg 2.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Charlestown was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Trinity Lutheran on Tuesday. The Pirates blew past the Cougars 17-2. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won six matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Lex Rose was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Rose was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs. That's the most hits he has posted over his last 11 games.

In other batting news, Aj Todd was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Garret Titzer was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
Charlestown always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .682. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Scottsburg put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with an 8-4 victory over Mitchell.
Like Charlestown, Scottsburg also got a great game from a two-way player: Garrett McClellan. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over 4.2 innings pitched. McClellan has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
McClellan wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tucker Doriot, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that Doriot has hit this season. Another was Braden Cox, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Scottsburg's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-0. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Charlestown, their win bumped their record up to 9-3.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Charlestown has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .474. However, it's not like Scottsburg struggles in that department as they've averaged .440. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
