Baseball Game Preview: Columbus Discoverers vs. Lincoln East Spartans

Columbus is 1-9 against Lincoln East since March of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. Columbus will challenge Lincoln East at 10:00 a.m.

Columbus is headed into the game having just suffered their biggest defeat since April 25, 2024 on Tuesday. They lost 10-3 to Skutt Catholic. The Discoverers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Columbus got a good showing from Matthew Krueger, who struck out six batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits (and not a single walk). The dominant performance also gave Krueger a new career-low in walks (zero).

On the hitting side, Columbus saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Connor Cameron, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Carter Renteria also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, Lincoln East put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Elkhorn South 16-10. Fans of the Spartans have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Lincoln East's victory was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Columbus, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.

Columbus couldn't quite finish off Lincoln East when the teams last played back in March of 2024 and fell 7-5. Can Columbus avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
