Baseball Game Preview: Warwick Raiders vs. Gloucester Dukes

Warwick is 1-9 against Gloucester since May of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 4:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Warwick 3.8, Gloucester 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Warwick will bounce into Tuesday's game after beating Menchville, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Raiders walked away with a 15-10 victory over the Monarchs last Thursday. That's two games straight that the Raiders have won by exactly five runs.

Meanwhile, Gloucester entered their tilt with Denbigh last Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Patriots by a score of 9-5. With that win, the Dukes brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.

Landon Morris made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Morris was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Jesse Jackson was incredible, scoring four runs while going 4-for-4. Grayson Shield was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Gloucester was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Denbigh only posted a batting average of .267.

Warwick's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Gloucester, their record now sits at 6-2.

Warwick suffered a grim 16-3 defeat to Gloucester when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Raiders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
