The Port Charlotte Pirates are taking a road trip to take on the North Port Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Port Charlotte is headed out to face North Port after opening their season at home and giving their fans just what they were looking for. Port Charlotte was the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over Cypress Lake on Tuesday. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Reed Backstrom and Jasper Davis were a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Backstrom tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Davis didn't allow a single earned run and only two hits while striking out eight over 4.2 innings pitched. At the plate, Backstrom scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Davis scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Farias Donovan, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Brock Budreau was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, North Port never let their opponents score on Wednesday. They blew past The Classical Academy of Sarasota 29-0. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bobcats.
Like Port Charlotte, North Port also got a great game from a two-way player: Wes Stines. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Stines was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect4-for-4 with six RBI, four runs, and two stolen bases.
In other batting news, Landon Davidson and Cian Stephens did most of the damage at the plate: Davidson went a perfect3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles, while Stephens went a perfect3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. The dominant performance gave Stephens a new career-high in RBI. Another player making a difference was Kayden Davidson, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Port Charlotte skirted past North Port 3-2 in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Port Charlotte since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
