Softball Game Preview: Resurrection Bandits vs. Antioch Sequoits

Resurrection hasn't had much luck against Antioch recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Bandits will take on the Sequoits at 4:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Resurrection sitting on three straight victories and Antioch on four.

Resurrection is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 win over Grayslake Central.

Elizabeth Dorgan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ella Anderson, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jenna Skweres, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Resurrection hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Meanwhile, Antioch beat Cary-Grove 6-3 on Friday.

Antioch's victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 22-13. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Resurrection, their victory bumped their record up to 16-12.

Resurrection might still be hurting after the 15-0 loss they got from Antioch in their previous matchup back in May of 2023. Can the Bandits avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
