Baseball Recap: Iola Has No Trouble Against Round Top-Carmine

Iola got themselves on the board against Round Top-Carmine on Tuesday, but Round Top-Carmine never followed suit. They blew past the Cubs 16-0. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Cubs recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Brody Vaughn made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Iola let Colt Childress and Colin Fowler run wild. Childress scored three runs while going 1-for-1, while Fowler went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Those three hits gave Fowler a new career-high. Eddie Longoria was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-1.

Iola kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 3.5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 11.6.

Iola's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Round Top-Carmine, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-9.

Iola will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Cubs: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
