Baseball Recap: Schenectady Comes Up Short

Schenectady had lost three straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 0-7 to make it four. They took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lansingburgh Knights. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Knights this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 21-6 on Friday.

Schenectady saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alex Bernard, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That hit marked the first that Bernard has got this season.

As for Lansingburgh, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games.

On Lansingburgh's side, Mason Luby and Dan Pondillo made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Luby pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Pondillo tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Luby went 1-for-2 with one triple and two RBI, while Pondillo went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Carson Genevive was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Johnny Cronk, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Schenectady will face off against Hoosic Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lansingburgh, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Schalmont at 7:00 p.m. The Knights are facing the Sabres at the right time seeing as the Sabres are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
