Softball Game Preview: Coleman Comets vs. Valley Lutheran Chargers

The Coleman Comets will take on the Valley Lutheran Chargers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Valley Lutheran took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Coleman, who comes in off a win.

On Friday, Coleman beat Carrollton 6-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Comets.

Kendall Allen made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Allen wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Isabelle Lewis, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was Lewis' first of the season. Elley Johnson was another, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Coleman kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Valley Lutheran was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They lost 20-4 to Michigan Lutheran Seminary.

Valley Lutheran's defeat dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Coleman, their win bumped their record up to 3-7.

Everything went Coleman's way against Valley Lutheran when the teams last played back in May of 2019, as Coleman made off with an 11-1 victory. Do the Comets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Chargers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
