El Paso is 2-8 against Chapin since January of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The El Paso Tigers will square off against the Chapin Huskies at 7:30 p.m.
Last Friday, El Paso was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 28-23 to Canutillo. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, El Paso saw an underclassman step up: freshman Eva Guevara posted seven points.
Even though they lost, El Paso smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Chapin waltzed into their matchup on Friday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Mustangs 44-42. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Huskies have posted since November 9, 2023.
Chapin's win came from a few key players El Paso will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jasmine Blake, who scored 14 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Daisy Urenda, who had eight points.
El Paso's defeat dropped their record down to 7-20. As for Chapin, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-12.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: El Paso has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31.1 boards per game. However, it's not like Chapin struggles in that department as they've been averaging 36.7 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
El Paso came up short against Chapin in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, falling 42-33. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Chapin's Samantha Wise, who went 7 for 14 on her way to 19 points in addition to eight boards and four steals.
