Baseball Recap: Magnolia Takes a Loss

Magnolia extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 7-15 in the process. They lost 13-3 to the Wirt County Tigers. That's two games in a row now that the Blue Eagles have lost by exactly ten runs.

As for Wirt County, their record now sits at 11-9. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by seven runs or more this season.

For Wirt County's part, Kolton Toler made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Wirt County is 5-1 when Toler allows three or fewer earned runs, but 6-8 otherwise. Toler was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Wyatt Boice and Brody Ewing did most of the damage at the plate: Boice went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one double, while Ewing went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Ewing has become a key player for Wirt County: the team is 8-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Trenton Watson, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Wirt County beat Magnolia by a score of 13-3 later that day.
