Basketball Recap: Stover Extends Winning Streak to Four

Stover won the last time they faced Warsaw and things went their way on Thursday too. The Stover Bulldogs secured a 55-51 W over the Warsaw Wildcats. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 110th, while the Wildcats are ranked 264th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Stover was led to victory by Ashlyn Pinzke and Teagan Morris. Pinzke dropped a double-double with 25 points and ten boards, while Morris posted 12 points along with five assists and five rebounds. The dominant performance gave Morris a new career-high in assists. Another player making a difference was Gabby Sidebottom, who had seven points.

Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tanna Howe, who went 8-for-19 to rack up 22 points. Howe has become a key player for Warsaw: the team is 6-1 when she posts at least 20 points, but 9-11 otherwise. Kiera Mostaffa was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with nine points and ten boards.

The victory (which was Stover's fourth in a row) raised their record to 23-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 25.8 points on average over those games. As for Warsaw, their record is now 15-12.

Stover didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 42-30 loss against Lone Jack on the 1st. Warsaw does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
