Basketball Recap: Rhinelander Comes Up Short

After flying high against Lakeland on Tuesday, Rhinelander came back down to earth. The Hodags took a hard 54-39 fall against the Mosinee Indians on Friday. The Hodags have struggled against the Indians recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Mosinee found their leader in sophomore Paetyn Jirschele, who went 6-for-15 on her way to 25 points and five steals. Jirschele has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Addy Henrich, who shot 50% from the field en route to 11 points and five steals.

Rhinelander's defeat dropped their record down to 7-7. As for Mosinee, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-4.

Rhinelander has already played their next matchup, a 42-38 loss against Shawano Community on the 20th. As for Mosinee, they will venture away from home to challenge Lakeland at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. The Indians will be up against the Thunderbirds' rather soft defense (which has allowed 55.67 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
