Softball Game Preview: Liberty Falcons vs. Century Jaguars

The Liberty Falcons will venture away from home to take on the Century Jaguars at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Liberty is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.

Liberty came up short against Forest Grove on Wednesday, falling 11-1. That's two games in a row now that the Falcons have lost by exactly ten runs.

Carley Cunningham was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season.

Meanwhile, Century suffered their closest defeat since May 3, 2024 on Wednesday. They fell just short of Glencoe by a score of 4-2. The Jaguars have struggled against the Crimson Tide recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.

Alyssa Loza spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on seven hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Century saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Avery Gonzalez, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

Liberty's loss dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Century, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-10.

Century's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Liberty hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .350. It's a different story for Century, though, as they've only averaged .227. Will they be able to contain Liberty's hitters?

Liberty suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Century in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Falcons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
