Basketball Game Preview: Currituck County Knights vs. Deep Creek Hornets

Two dominant guards in Arianna White and Morgan Herbert are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Currituck County Knights will head out on the road to face off against the Deep Creek Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Thursday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Currituck County beat Pasquotank County 53-47. Given the Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 170th, while the Panthers are ranked 508th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Currituck County to victory, but perhaps none more so than White, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 boards. White is crushing it when it comes to boards: she's pulled down at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Savannah Banks, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 boards.

Meanwhile, the third road contest was the charm for Deep Creek, as they earned their first road win of the season. They blew past King's Fork 70-44 on Tuesday. The Hornets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 25 points or more this season.

Deep Creek's win came from a few key players Currituck County will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Sophya Webb, who posted 16 points in addition to seven assists and six boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Alaya Monroe, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.

The victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 6-4. As for Currituck County, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-3.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Currituck County has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 39.4 boards per game. However, it's not like Deep Creek struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.9 rebounds.
