Baseball Game Preview: New Miami Vikings vs. Spencer Center

The New Miami Vikings will be taking part in a tournament against Spencer Center at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. New Miami is looking for their season's first victory.

On Friday, New Miami came up short against St. Bernard-Elmwood Place and fell 9-4.

Meanwhile, Spencer Center made easy work of Gamble Montessori on Friday and carried off a 14-4 win. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for Spencer Center's hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Imani Jordan was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ashad Sitawi, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with seven stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Coen Morris, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs.

New Miami's defeat dropped their record down to 0-9. As for Spencer Center, their victory ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-7.
