League recap: Lopez overpowering for South El Monte in past week

Mission Valley league recap: 5/21/12

Mario Lopez was the best pitcher in Mission Valley this week, leading South El Monte. He picked up one win and five strikeouts.

Gabrielino currently sits at the top of the league with a mark of 14-10 overall and 12-3 in the league. Mountain View is in second place, one game behind with an 11-4 record in league play.

The Vikings boasted the best pitching over the past week, holding opponents to the league's fewest hits and issuing the fewest walks. On the season, Mountain View has allowed just 80 hits, while striking out 77 batters. Felix Hernandez leads Mountain View with 38 strikeouts in 44 innings pitched.

Although Arroyo finished first in the league this week with 99 hits, the Vikings still sit atop the the league leaderboard with 220 total hits this season. With 17 hits this year Eduardo Federico leads the second-place squad, which finished with a 0-0 record this week.

Rosemead's Andrew Gibson led the league with six hits this week. His 15 hits for the year are fourteenth in the league, and he boasts a .333 batting average.
