Baseball Game Preview: Reavis Rams vs. Hillcrest Hawks

Reavis is a perfect 7-0 against Hillcrest since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Rams will host the Hawks at 4:30 p.m. Reavis will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

Reavis' pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 9-0 margin over Oak Forest. The Rams might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by six runs or more this season.

Juan Avila tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over six innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Parker Zasada, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaac Velasco, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Hillcrest came up short against Blue Island Eisenhower on Thursday, falling 13-3. The Hawks have struggled against the Cardinals recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost meeting.

Reavis' win was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Hillcrest, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.

Everything went Reavis' way against Hillcrest in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Reavis made off with a 12-2 win. Will the Rams repeat their success, or do the Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
