Soccer Game Preview: La Serna vs. Montebello

The La Serna Lancers and the Montebello Oilers will round out the year against one another at at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. La Serna's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for six straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

On Monday, La Serna came up short against Esperanza and fell 3-1. While losing is never fun, the Lancers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 965th, while the Aztecs are ranked 476th).

Meanwhile, Montebello has been on a difficult stretch since their win on the sixth. Neither they nor Poly could gain the upper hand on Saturday so the two teams had to settle for a 1-1 draw. The victory was some much needed relief for the Oilers as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

With that draw, Montebello's record moves to 2-6-3. As for La Serna, their loss dropped their record down to 0-7-2.

La Serna came out on top in a nail-biter against Montebello when the teams last played back in November of 2019, sneaking past 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for La Serna since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
