Basketball Recap: Pueblo East Beats Pueblo South for Their Third Straight Victory

Pueblo East hadn't done well against Pueblo South recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Pueblo East Eagles managed a 48-44 victory over the Pueblo South Colts. This was a revenge game for the Eagles: when they faced off against the Colts back in January, they had to take a 44-31 defeat.

Pueblo East's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaden Garcia, who posted 19 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Izaiah Trujillo, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and ten rebounds.

Pueblo East smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pueblo South only pulled down five offensive boards.

Several Colts players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Christian Vigil, who put up 15 points and six boards. Vigil has become a key player for Pueblo South: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least 15 points, but 5-11 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Sergio Salazar, who had 12 points and seven rebounds.

The victory (which was Pueblo East's third in a row) raised their record to 13-7. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.7 points over those games. As for Pueblo South, they dropped their record down to 8-12 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Pueblo East will take on Harrison at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Pueblo South, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 74-21 win against Pueblo Centennial on the 13th.
