Softball Recap: Saint Francis Find Success

Saint Francis posted their closest victory since April 12, 2024 on Saturday. They skirted past the Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders 8-6.

Ava Bulanti was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

In other pitching news, Mercedes Coller looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

Back at the plate, Hayden Hummel was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was May Meltz, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Saint Francis' record now sits at 10-1. As for Mater Dei Catholic, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-4.

Saint Francis wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 4-3 loss against JSerra Catholic on the 5th. As for Mater Dei Catholic, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 6-1 defeat against Los Alamitos on the 5th.
