Baseball Recap: Aliso Niguel's Winning Streak Snapped at Six Games

It was a good run, but Aliso Niguel unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of the Newport Harbor Sailors by a score of 2-1. The Wolverines were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Sailors apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Connor Etnire was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Cooper Flemming was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that he snagged this season.

Aliso Niguel's loss dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Newport Harbor, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-1.

Looking ahead, Aliso Niguel will take on Reed in a tournament on March 17th. As for Newport Harbor, they will be playing at home against Mission Viejo at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The last three games Newport Harbor has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
