Softball Recap: Midland Wins Going Away Against Brinkley

After low-scoring totals in their previous three contests, Midland brought some dynamite into their most recent matchup. They blew past the Brinkley Tigers 19-1 on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won nine in a row.

Haylee Meeks made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Those eight strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addison Rooffener, who scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was London Porterfield, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-1.

Midland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .893. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

Midland's win bumped their record up to 7-11. As for Brinkley, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Midland is set to challenge their familiar foe Augusta at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Brinkley will face off against rival Clarendon at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Tigers are on a five-game streak of home losses dating back to last season, and the Lions a four-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck.
