Softball Game Preview: Spring Valley Vikings vs. Lugoff-Elgin Demons

Spring Valley is 0-8 against Lugoff-Elgin since March of 2015 but things could change on Thursday. The Vikings are taking a road trip to take on the Demons at 7:00 p.m. Spring Valley has given up an average of 15.8 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Spring Valley is headed into Thursday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 11th straight game on Wednesday. They lost 17-5 to River Bluff.

Eryn Wright was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, four stolen bases, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Karrington Shell, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run.

Meanwhile, Lugoff-Elgin got the win against Spring Valley on Tuesday by a conclusive 11-1. The victory continues a trend for the Demons in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now won eight in a row.

Cassie Merriweather tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over five innings pitched.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kayley Lynch, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Izzy Brown, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Spring Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 2-18. As for Lugoff-Elgin, their win bumped their record up to 9-12.

Spring Valley might still be hurting after the 11-1 loss they got from Lugoff-Elgin in their previous meeting on Tuesday. Can the Vikings avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
