Preview: South Effingham Mustangs vs. Brunswick Pirates

South Effingham has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Brunswick Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Last Saturday, South Effingham took a serious blow against Lakeside, falling 83-44. While losing is never fun, South Effingham can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 463rd, while Lakeside is ranked 123rd).

Despite the loss, South Effingham had strong showings from Chase Seyler, who scored ten points along with six rebounds, and Will Harlin, who scored nine points along with three steals.

Meanwhile, even though Richmond Hill scored an imposing 58 points on Tuesday, Brunswick still came out on top. Brunswick took their contest against Richmond Hill 68-58. The win was just what Brunswick needed coming off of a 84-54 loss in their prior match.

Brunswick's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Craig Battle, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Caleb Butler was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with seven rebounds.

South Effingham dropped their record down to 0-21 with that loss, which was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Brunswick, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a massive bump to their 11-14 record this season.

South Effingham came up short against Brunswick in their previous matchup two weeks ago, falling 83-72. Can South Effingham avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
