Football Recap: Smyrna Bulldogs vs. Hendersonville Commandos

If Hendersonville wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Smyrna, they should've done a better job of containing RJ Williams. The Bulldogs came out on top against the Commandos by a score of 31-20 on Friday thanks in part to Williams, who rushed for 105 yards and one touchdown on only seven carries. He got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 59 yards.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Smyrna's defense and their three sacks. Zarin Butler was especially locked on to Hendersonville's QB and sacked him twice. Another thorn in the Commandos' side was Noah Jaeger, who forced two fumbles and made nine total tackles (1.5 for loss).

Special teams was a major factor in the game for Smyrna, racking up 13 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Ze McCarver, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

The victory got Smyrna back to even at 1-1. As for Hendersonville, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Smyrna and Hendersonville could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Tennessee Rankings. The Bulldogs (ranked 50th) will meet Oakland (ranked third) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Hendersonville will challenge Page at 7:30 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (87 vs. 14).
