Baseball Recap: Pickerington North Has No Trouble Against Grove City

Pickerington North lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Grove City, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Monday's contest. The Panthers blew past the Greyhounds 14-6 on Monday. Considering the Panthers have won four games by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Jackson Turnbull made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and two doubles. He is becoming a predictor of Pickerington North's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 1-3 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Nic Markle was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Nolan Sanders was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Pickerington North kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Pickerington North now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Grove City, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 5-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pickerington North will head out to square off against New Albany at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Eagles will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Panthers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Grove City, they will venture away from home to take on Lincoln at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Greyhounds' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lions have averaged an impressive 10.9 runs per game this season.
