Basketball Recap: Cumberland County Takes a Loss

Cumberland County lost against White County back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Cumberland County Jets lost to the White County Warriors at home by a 53-39 margin. While losing is never fun, the Jets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 90th, while the Warriors are ranked ninth).

Lakelyn Grasty was nothing short of spectacular for White County: she went 8 for 11 en route to 26 points and three steals. Grasty continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Jones, who almost dropped a double-double on nine boards and ten blocks.

Cumberland County now has a losing record at 6-7. As for White County, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cumberland County will square off against Stone Memorial at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for White County, they will challenge Upperman at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Upperman has won seven straight at home, while White County won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
