Preview: Trinity Academy Knights vs. Cheney Cardinals
Trinity Academy is 2-8 against Cheney since December of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The pair will face off on February 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Trinity Academy sitting on four straight victories and Cheney on 13.
Trinity Academy proved they can win big on Monday (they won by 32) but on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Medicine Lodge and snuck past 59-57. The win was all the more spectacular given Trinity Academy's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 216th, while Medicine Lodge is ranked 51st).
Meanwhile, Cheney scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Belle Plaine 88-36 on the road. Cheney has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 21 points or more this season.
The win got Trinity Academy back to even at 8-8. As for Cheney, they pushed their record up to 14-2 with that win, which was their seventh straight on the road.
Trinity Academy was dealt a bruising 75-48 defeat at the hands of Cheney in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Can Trinity Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
