Softball Recap: Northern Durham Knights vs. East Chapel Hill Wildcats

Northern Durham had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 3-12 to make it four. They fell just short of the East Chapel Hill Wildcats by a score of 9-8. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 22-13 back in March.

Roxy Nelson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Eleri Herrera was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

As for East Chapel Hill, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games.

On East Chapel Hill's side, McKenna White spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and six unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks. White has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Lauren Steiner was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Anna Grabowski, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
