Basketball Game Preview: Skowhegan River Hawks vs. Mt. Blue Cougars

The Skowhegan River Hawks will head out on the road to square off against the Mt. Blue Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Last Thursday, Skowhegan was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 62-61 to Camden Hills. The River Hawks haven't had much luck with the Windjammers recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.

Meanwhile, everything went Mt. Blue's way against Mountain Valley on Friday as Mt. Blue made off with a 56-30 victory. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Maine basketball rankings (they are ranked 33rd, while the Falcons are ranked 115th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mt. Blue's win bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Skowhegan, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-10.

Skowhegan came up short against Mt. Blue when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 68-56. Can Skowhegan avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
