Basketball Game Preview: Slaton Tigers vs. Shallowater Mustangs

Slaton is 0-10 against Shallowater since January of 2020 but things could change on Tuesday. The Slaton Tigers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Shallowater Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Slaton took a loss when they played away from home last Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They walked away with a 44-32 victory over Idalou. The 44-point effort marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Shallowater's strategy against Friona on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Shallowater blew Friona out of the water with a 77-27 final score. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 25 points or more this season.

Shallowater pushed their record up to 6-2 with the win, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 30.3 points. As for Slaton, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season.

Slaton was dealt a bruising 78-36 defeat at the hands of Shallowater in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. Can Slaton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
